Maximoe Foods LLC Debuts All Natural, Shelf Stable Hummus To Convenience Services

Maximoe Foods LLC has introduced all natural, shelf stable hummus in 3.5-ounce packs for vending and micro markets under its Mediterra brand. Company founder Oshri Segal sees the opportunity to offer customers an ambient as opposed to refrigerated hummus as a key selling point for convenience service operators. The hummus is packed in aseptic packaging.

The hummus – which is made in Israel and features an 18-month shelf life, is kosher, gluten-free, GMO-free, has no trans fat and is BRC certified – marks the company’s first offering to the convenience services  industry. The Closter, N.J. based company has manufactured falafel mix for the foodservice industry nationally for the past 10 years.

“Not only does it taste good, it has the least amount of ingredients,” Segal said. “There are no funny ingredients in it to overcome acidity.”

“There are no preservatives; it’s clean,” Segal said. Unlike other hummus products, Mediterra does not contain oil, he said. “Close to 20 percent of it is tahini,” he said.

The original hummus has five ingredients: chick pea, water, tahini, salt and lactic acid. In addition to the original flavor, chili pepper hummus is also available.

The tagline on the package reads, “Mediterra spread the health.”
