How Covid Is Changing Food At Work from Pantries to Vending

How Covid Is Changing Food At Work from Pantries to VendingThe world has changed in many ways since Covid-19, and one of the biggest changes has been how food is sold in offices.

Since the onset of Covid-19, many companies have been eliminating office pantry services and replacing the service with micro markets. Office pantry services typically hold snacks, food bins, and refrigerators from which employees can buy the food and beverages they need without leaving the building.  Micro markets eliminate the common company refrigerator, enabling companies to offer the same amount of food and beverage with less personal contact, thus eliminating the spread of viruses and keeping employees safe.

According to a recent study, micro markets generated over $7 billion in revenue in 2020, a 99.2% growth rate from 2012.  More than 50,000 micro markets are expected to open in the next five years, proving that micro markets are here to stay.

Micro Markets Offer Safety

From the moment that an employee enters a micro market, they can see fresh food and beverage in coolers or containers. When an employee decides on the pre-packaged food or beverage they want, they can order via an app on their smartphone or another device. Once the order is placed, the micro market cooler will open and the employee can get the items that they purchased without having to interact with other employees.  Payment can be through a variety of options including debit cards, credit cards, pre-paid cards, and more.

Micro markets enable companies and facilities to eliminate the hassles of traditional office coffee services while still providing food, snacks, beverages, and other items for employees.

The micro market operator is responsible for equipment installation, stocking products, account management, and upkeep of equipment and basic service requirements.

Besides corporate office breakrooms, micro markets can also be found in a variety of locations worldwide including college campuses, entertainment venues, apartment buildings, transportation centers, and hospitals.
