The convenience services industry—which includes traditional vending, unattended retail markets, office coffee, and pantry services—generates $40.04 billion in annual economic impact and supports 165,300 jobs across the country, according to a new report released today by the Foundation of the National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA).

Prepared by John Dunham & Associates, the report provides the most comprehensive economic assessment to date of this essential sector. It quantifies total output, employment, labor income, and tax contributions across all 50 states.

“This report confirms what NAMA members already know and understand— convenience services is an industry that empowers local economies, meets consumer needs, and creates meaningful jobs in every state,” said Carla Balakgie, President & CEO of NAMA, in a recent press release. “That impact goes beyond economic numbers. It’s reflected in every nourishing, refreshing, accessible, and convenient experience delivered to consumers each day.”

The convenience services industry operates in nearly every setting where Americans work, travel, and gather — from offices and warehouses to schools, hospitals, and transit hubs. Its footprint spans every congressional district, supporting a wide range of businesses, including many family- and locally-owned operations as well as national brands.
