Camera security monitoring supports micro markets and other workplace self-service amenities

The National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA) today issued the following statement on enactment of Connecticut Public Act 26-89, a law allowing camera security monitoring of self-service kiosks in employee lounges and breakrooms beginning October 1, 2026.

The policy change supports a practical need in workplace self-service retail for loss prevention and security. It also reflects a broader shift in how consumers access food, beverages and other everyday essentials. Through micro market, vending, office coffee service and pantry programs, convenience services provide always-ready access to what people need in a myriad of spaces where tradition retail options may not be available.

Recent industry findings from the NAMA Foundation show that self-service retail and workplace amenities are driving some of the strongest growth in food and beverage access. Those findings reinforce the role convenience services play in supporting workforce needs, workplace flexibility and the day-to-day function of the environments where people work and gather.

“Modern convenience services are part of how many workplaces support employees every day,” said Michael Hogg, director of state and local government affairs for NAMA. “When policy allows operators to use standard security tools, it ensures that these amenities are reliable, safe and stocked with the essentials people are looking for.”

NAMA worked with local operators and the New England Refreshment Services Association to support the policy change.
