JAMIE SURA, TOMMY JAMES FETED AT AMOA-NY GALA MAY 7TH

AMOA New York 2019In front of a packed 100+ room where attendees were feasting on a thirteen course family style Italian dinner, TouchTunes Senior Vice President/Sales Jamie Sura accepted the Amusement And Music Owners Association of New York’s “Man of the Year Award” for 2019.

Standing side-by-side with AMOA-NY President Ken Goldberg (Emerson Amusement), AMOA-NY Vice President Joe Bossolina (McGee Amusement), and TouchTunes Board Member, Charles Goldstuck, Jamie Sura became passionate when he described how:  “Both Charles Goldstuck and I joined TouchTunes at the same time, ten years ago this week.  I take great pride in how I have been able to contribute to TouchTunes’ leadership position in the industry.”

Jamie Sura analyzed: “The jukebox amusement industry is special.  There is a unique sense of family and an element of personal relationship with our customers that you just don’t see in other industries.  I have learned how whether it is manufacturers and service providers like TouchTunes, or operators or locations—all of our interests are aligned.  So if all of us even as competitors are committed to innovation and creativity, everybody benefits.  This dynamic motivates the end user consumer to want to play our jukeboxes more.”  Jamie Sura concluded how much it meant to him how such a large representation of the industry was together in the room where he was the guest of honor.

AMOA-NY’s “2019 Jukebox Artist of the Year” is Tommy James & The Shondells.  The iconic recording artist who has sold over 100,000,000 records in his career similarly spoke about how much AMOA-NY’s tribute means to him.  He boasted how at his home, he owns two classic jukeboxes, a Wurlitzer 2100, and a Seeburg V-200.

During five decades, James has earned: 23 Gold Singles, Nine Platinum Albums, and 32 Billboard Hot Charts.  As James, who regularly performs throughout the nation and around the globe was receiving the presentation—a TouchTunes 2018 “Angelina” Jukebox was playing both his new album, “Alive” and new single “So Beautiful“ which are scheduled for release.

In attendance was the producer of a motion picture to be made about the life story of Tommy James, based on his autobiography published several years ago, Me, The Mob And The Music.

In his annual remarks, Ken Goldberg took the occasion to detail a list of reasons why it is important for greater New York regional operators to support AMOA-NY.  “I often get asked: ‘What does AMOA-NY do for me?’  So here goes: The NYC COAD Tax and Consumer Affairs Tax both costing each one of us $200 per machine:  GONE!  The Nassau County, NY COAD:  GONE!  NYC raising the limit to nine games per location:  DONE!  Reforming the penal code to legalize Broadway games: DONE!  Easement and accommodation on pool tables:  DONE!  AMOA-NY’s copyrighted agreements:  THE GOLD STANDARD!”

Goldberg indicated that AMOA-NY has been hard at work to open opportunities for operators to participate in legalized gaming.  Goldberg summed up:  “There is really no excuse for an operator, not to be a part of AMOA-NY.”
