Keurig Dr Pepper Transitioning To 100% Recycled Plastic Bottles

Keurig Dr PepperCORE BRAND (NASDAQ: KDP) recently announced that they are transitioning its Snapple and CORE brands to 100% recycled plastic bottles.  This move reflects a global trend as more companies are moving towards an environmentally sustainable packaging.  The bottles that Keurig Dr Pepper plan on transitioning to are recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) plastic and it is predicted that this move is going to eliminate about 50 million pounds of plastic annually that the company typically uses to bottle their beverages.

Commitment To A Circular Economy

“Transitioning to recycled plastic bottles for two of our key brands is a critical next step in Keurig Dr Pepper’s commitment to a circular economy,” said Monique Oxender, Chief Sustainability Officer of KDP. “This important portfolio evolution enables us to offer consumers their favorite beverages, while meeting their desire for more sustainable packaging.”

Keurig Dr Pepper’s Snapple 16 oz. products are already available in 100% recycled plastic bottles on the West Coast and the company hopes to continue transitioning other markets to recycled plastic bottles early in 2021.

More Consumers Want Sustainable Packaging

Although Snapple has been a beloved beverage for over 30 years, Keurig Dr Pepper has adapted to consumer demand for sustainable packaging.  By moving to 100% recycled plastic for its core brands, the company knows that it will remain a viable brand for decades to come while also doing their part to help the environment.

Although Keurig Dr Pepper is moving to 100% recycled bottles for their core brands, what fans of Snapple and their other products don’t know is that the company was already using post-consumer recycled content (PCR) in most of their brand packaging.

Will Eliminate 35,000 Metric Tons Of Emissions From Environment Per Year

As global environmental standards change, companies like Keurig Dr Pepper know that they must continue to adapt and change with the times. By transitioning their core brands to 100% recycled bottles, Keurig Dr Pepper isn’t just changing how their brands will be packaged, the company will be removing the equivalent of 7,500 cars from the road in one year, or 35,000 metric tons of emissions from the environment.
